The Green Rim Over some specific geographic areas, and under particular meteorological conditions, the random movements of the atmospheric layers, act on celestial bodies such as the Sun, the Moon and the planets. Specifically, they absorb selectively the different wavelengthts, with refractive and scattering paths, . In these conditions, through the light duct, on the upper surface of the celestial body (both at sunset and dawn), the formation of "curls” maybe spotted. These curls are characterized by a color shade ranging from indigo blue to emerald green. These optical phenomena belong to the photometeors class and they are rare, ephemeral and quite difficult to record with photography. There are different legends concerning such phenomena but I like to recall the one reported by Dr Paolo Candy reports on his nice book "Le meraviglie del cielo - The wonders of the Sky" (Edizioni Il castello): “Among the numerous legends the Scottish one is the most charming: it narrates that the lucky observer of such events cannot be deceived anymore with lies as he is able to look clear in his and others' hearts. Whoever may spot the green rim will be able to realize his own dreams". _________________
